Heavy Duty & Bariatric Chairs

Most heavy duty chairs are developed with a steel substructure that assures strength and stability to get you through your day. We only stock bariatric chairs that are properly engineered and tested to be sure that the weight rating is accurate.

Bariatric Chairs FAQs

Heavy duty & bariatric chairs are designed for the larger user who demands comfort and ergonomics. Most of our heavy duty chairs can seat a weight of up to 150 kg while some of the KAB chairs (like the Director) are rated up to 225 kg. These chairs are designed for optimal support and comfort for people who need an office chair that's more heavy duty than a regular office task chair.

Some of our most popular heavy duty chairs are from the Gregory range. Australian made Gregory chairs use Dual density seat foam which allows the seat to mould to the user. This ergonomic technology encourages a healthy posture by correctly positioning your spine in the desired “S” shape.

Our chairs are designed to suit any interior and come in a range of stylish colours, so you can be sure to find one that meets your ergonomic requirements and looks stylish at the same time.

If you want to try any design before buying, feel free to come in and test some ergonomic heavy duty chairs in our Perth showroom - you will be blown away by the level of comfort you experience. You can also speak to one of our experts to help you with your decision. Otherwise, you can shop online and enjoy the convenience of delivery anywhere in Australia.

What is the difference between a heavy duty and bariatric chair?

There is no difference between heavy duty chairs and bariatric chairs. The term Bariatric comes from ‘Bariatric Surgery’, which is a variety of surgeries for people who are overweight or struggling with weight issues. But Bariatric chairs aren’t just designed for overweight users due to the back's height, so the term heavy duty chair is more commonly used as these are also suitable chairs for tall people.

What is the best heavy duty office chair for long periods of sitting?

If you are a larger user who spends a large part of the day sitting in your chair, you can’t go past the KAB ACS Executive heavy duty office chair. This is one of the few chairs that’s been designed using airbags for increased comfort and optimal ergonomic support. The airbags are located in the side cushions, the thigh cushions, the backrest and in the bolsters of the seat. This chair also has the greatest weight capacity of almost any chair on the market - 225kg, making it ideal for overweight users and/or users who experience severe back pain when using a typical office chair.

What should I look for when selecting an ergonomic heavy duty office chair?

Comfort

Test out a range of adjustable chairs and make sure the chair is suitable and comfortable for your body frame and workstation.

AFRDI Rating

Ideally, you want your heavy duty furniture to be Level 6 approved. This means your chair has met the highest standards for durability, performance, sustainability, and overall functionality.

What is AFRDI 6 certification?

You will notice that many heavy duty chairs have been given AFRDI Level 6 certification. What does this mean exactly? The Australasian Furnishing Research & Development Institute (AFRDI) is an organisation that determines product standards for a wide range of furniture. The certification is dependent on how safe the chair is and how good the product is for the environment. AFRDI Level 6 is the highest rating a chair can receive. Level 6 means that the product can adhere to the toughest working conditions in environments like hospitals, police stations, and casinos.

Is there a need for heavy duty office chairs in meeting or waiting rooms?

Whether or not you should have heavy duty chairs in your meeting or waiting room depends on the kind of work environment. For example, doctors’ surgeries and hospital waiting rooms should have a percentage of heavy duty chairs because they have overweight people who visit their businesses frequently. Whereas for an office environment, it is better to order heavy duty chairs on request as they have better knowledge of the people who work there and what their physical requirements are.

If you think your workplace requires some heavy duty chairs for your meeting room, the Persona 24/7 is an affordable heavy duty chair that is ideal for waiting.
