Wired Keyboards

Wired keyboards connect to the computer through a wire, with a USB plug or another proprietary connector on the other end. Wired keyboards are extremely reliable since they have a direct connection to the computer and do not suffer from interference, unlike their wireless counterparts. These are suitable for anything from gaming to corporate job usage.

Nowadays, almost all wired keyboards use USB technology as the interface to the computer. Older computers with the PS/2 plug can support PS/2-compatible keyboards, although this type of connector is rare to find.

A USB-wired keyboard can be connected when the computer is on or off, while PS/2 wired keyboards can only be connected or disconnected when the computer is off. Furthermore, PS/2 ports are often colour-coded, often with the purple port allocated for keyboards.

Wired keyboards have several advantages in terms of stability, response time, cost, and usability. Because they transmit signals through a cord, the connection is more stable, and the feedback for your inputs is much quicker. They also do not need extra batteries and often have the same functionality as their wireless counterparts while costing less.

However, for all the advantages, there are several disadvantages concerning the flexibility of use and clutter. The limited cord length often means a limit on how far you can place the keyboard from your desktop or laptop computer. In addition, the cord can clutter your desk, particularly if you have several devices that also use cords.

QWERTY - derived from the letters at the top-left corner of the keyboard - is the most common keyboard layout. Most wireless and wired keyboards on sale and in use across the globe use this layout, which mostly comes from typewriters.

Alternative layouts may presumably improve the QWERTY layout (Dvorak and Colemak), although we haven't seen proven benefits from studies. Moreover, learning a new keyboard layout can be difficult, mainly because it requires people to resist the urge brought upon by muscle memory.

If you spend a lot of time typing at work, an ergonomic keyboard is a good investment. While the initial cost of the equipment is more substantial than its non-ergonomic counterparts, the long-term benefits often outweigh the one-off cost. In addition to improving posture and overall physical health, it also helps keep stress levels and discomfort at bay while working.
