About Evoluent

The Evoluent Vertical Shape

Evoluent Mouse

The Evoluent™ VerticalMouse™ 3 is the advanced third generation of the revolutionary mouse from the original inventor of the handshake grip. The vertical shape of the Evoluent Mouse provides the most neutral posture of the wrist and forearm for any mouse we've tried. That's why the Evoluent is without a doubt the most popular input device in our range.

The Evoluent VerticalMouse was evaluated in 2007 by a team at the health services clinic in UC Berkeley, including medical doctors, physical therapists, ergonomists, and administrators. It was found to be comfortable, easily adapted to, and promoted a neutral wrist and forearm posture. It is the only vertical type mouse approved for staff use within UC Berkeley and for sale in the campus store.

Evoluent Forearm

The Evoluent has a patented shape which supports your hand in a fully upright handshake position - eliminating forearm twisting.

To see what we mean, place your hand palm down with your fingers flat on the desk. Notice that your comfort level increases as you rotate your forearm outward. That is, your hand is now side-on with your little finger resting on the desk and your thumb in a relaxed position resting on or near your index finger.

The Evoluent Mouse is designed to replicate this relaxed posture by inclining your wrist towards vertical and keeping your hand relaxed. Radial (thumb) and ulnar (little finger) deviation as well as wrist flexion and extension are known risk factors for Occupational Overuse Syndrome (or RSI) when using a mouse. These risk factors are greatly reduced when the wrist is turned side-on and the larger arm muscles are allowed to move the mouse - that's why the Evoluent is such a great choice as a preventative product too!

Technical Features of The Evoluent Mouse

Evoluent Mouse Buttons

The VerticalMouse does not move sideways when clicking with normal force because the thumb naturally opposes the fingers. Pointer control is as accurate as any other mouse when the pointer speed settings are properly adjusted. All 5 buttons are easily operable without contorting your fingers. The button force is light for easy clicking, but still firm enough to avoid accidental actuation.

Evoluent Mouse dpi   An Avago 3080 gaming grade infrared sensor tracks more accurately on many surfaces than most laser sensors. The Rev 3 has a button and indicator light on the bottom for cycling the true optical hardware resolution among 4 settings: 2600, 1800, 1300, and 800 dpi. This makes adjusting pointer speed easier and further improves tracking.

The Evoluent Mouse is suitable for almost every size hand except the very small or very large and is available in left and right hand versions. The right hand version is also available as a wireless product while the left hand version is available as corded only.
